We almost decided not to visit Kitulgala and after today I am so grateful that we did and that we worked with Adventure LK for our white water rafting and canyoning experience. Our family of four had an exhilarating time navigating the class 2 and 3 rapids with our amazing guide Prem. Prem was so good with our young teens, ensuring they felt safe and challenging them to take some big leaps off of the cliffs into the river. My kids came away feeling so empowered today and said they had the absolutely best time today. My only concern, is that my daughter might become and adrenaline junky. Lol! Highly recommend and if you can, request Prem as your guide!

The rafting route is exciting with a perfect mix of rapids and calm stretches to enjoy the scenic beauty of Kitulgala. Amazing work by the team here. We were two women and everything was so safely done. We tried white water rafting and ziplining. Prices were reasonable too. Loved the whole experience, do not miss out of in Sri Lanka.

Would repeat the experience I had with this place! There are many rafting experiences to choose from and my husband and I ended up finding this one on Google Maps. We were happy with our choice! They even offered to pick us up from a nearby bus station? They made sure all the gear fit, and gave us a full safety training. So the communication was the best part of it all. We ended up choosing the second package, a full experience for 30 USD per person for 3.5 hours. We experienced canyoning, zip-lining, and rafting and were even able to go multiple times! Would come back :)

Why book with us

How we actually run things

01

Guide-led, not guide-adjacent

Every raft and rope activity is run by a guide on the water or rock face with you, not shouting instructions from the bank.

02

Safety kit checked daily

Helmets, PFDs, harnesses and ropes are inspected each morning before the first group goes out — retired on schedule, not on failure.

03

We check the river, not the clock

If the Kelani is running too high after heavy rain, we delay or reschedule rather than send a raft out under pressure to keep to a timetable.

Planning your trip

Getting to Kithulgala

Kithulgala sits on the A7, the Colombo–Hatton road, about 90km east of the capital — where the wet-zone rainforest of the Makandawa Forest Reserve meets the Kelani River. It's also the filming location for David Lean's 1957 classic The Bridge on the River Kwai — the old bridge pilings are still visible from the river at low water in February and March.

The Kelani River is runnable year-round, but water levels change the ride: May–August (southwest monsoon) brings the biggest, most exciting rapids; December–March is calmer and better suited to nervous first-timers or younger kids.
